Fire Protection

Texas Commission on Fire Protection Home

The Texas Commission on Fire Protection helps protect the lives and property of the citizens of Texas by developing and enforcing standards for the fire service. These are the rules and certification standards by which fire departments should perform, and its fire fighters should be in compliance. This pertains most directly to paid, career fire fighters. The certification of firefighters by TCFP uses a similar curriculum, but follows a more rigorous skills testing system than that done by the State Firemen's & Fire Marshals' Association of Texas (SFFMA). TCFP Certification is required for career department firefighters; SFFMA certification is for volunteer firefighters.
